St. Michael Groundbreaking
It was with great delight that I, along with about 100 parishioners from our newest parish, officially broke ground on what eventually will become St. Michael the Archangel Parish.
This parish was established in 2012 in the northern part of Florence, just south of the San Tan Valley. Right now, the parish has about 275 registered families that celebrate Mass with their pastor, Father Dale Branson, in the cafeteria of nearby Copper Basin School.
Our groundbreaking took place on about 20 acres on Apollo Road off of Arizona Farms Road. It was gratifying to see so many people turn out for the groundbreaking, including Mitchell Lorenz, of MLH Project Management Services, Kendall Petry, of the Chasse Building Team, Dave Miller, our diocesan broker, and Mike Marum, a member of our diocesan Building Committee.
The artist conceptions for the first building are impressive; I know the parishioners and Father Dale can hardly wait to get started. The parish is working hard with the community and with our Catholic Foundation to get the needed funds to begin.
Just a short time after the groundbreaking, I confirmed 11 young people at the school. I was happy to see a full house for the Mass – it is great to know that our decision to build another parish in the area was a good one.
