Please note: The Diocese of Tucson and St. Augustine Cathedral Parish offices are closed until further notice because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
While our offices are closed, Pastoral Center employees are checking email messages and voice mail hourly. When you call a Pastoral Center employee, please leave a message with your phone number so your call can be returned. For the general delivery message box, dial 0.
Palm Sunday is April 5. There will be no palm distribution at parishes within the Diocese. Instead, please consider participating in Mass online with Bishop Weisenburger at diocesetucson.org, then reciting the prayer within this Update before a crucifix with your family.
Remember your parishes Online donations can be made to any DOT parish at www.cathfnd.org/HOPE
I reported the topic of parish financial need in my last Update. I cannot emphasize enough how critical it is for the welfare of our parishes that our diocese and faithful Catholics continue to support their faith homes right now. Many of our parishes have little financial backup to weekly giving. At the diocesan level, we are working on ways to provide support to parishes, but there are financial limitations within the Diocese as well.
I remind all, that although our churches are closed, many continue to provide services such as Mass on Facebook, and of course, essential ministries. Right now, please consider online donations to prevent these parishes from having to lay off their employees, who like many of you, are trying to continue to work from home.
Passion Sunday We will continue to use our website and other online tools to celebrate Palm Sunday. There will not be palm distribution at any of our parishes, but I have included here for you a prayer that you and your family members can recite together around a crucifix.
“Lord God,
I (we) give you thanks, for you are good, and your mercy is endless.
Here I (we) stand, at the start of this Holy Week,
this week in which your church remembers
Jesus’ passion and death,
and I am distracted by many things.
Turn my eyes now to the One who comes in your name,
the One who opens the gates of righteousness,
the One who answers when we call.
I (we) bless you, Lord, for shining your light upon me(us),
and for sending your Son to me (us), in human frailty, to walk the road we walk.
Open my (our) eyes that I (we) may see Him coming,
and that we may praise Him with a pure heart,
and that I (we) may walk in the way of His suffering,
and share also in His resurrection.
I (we) pray through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the
Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever. Amen.” (Prayer from ibelieve.com)
